SAFE PLACE SERVICES (SPS) EXISTS TO HELP THE CHURCH BECOME A SAFER PLACE FOR EVERYONE. ON THIS WEBSITE YOU WILL FIND AN ARRAY OF TOOLS AND RESOURCES FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN SAFEGUARDING, AND INFORMATION FOR VICTIMS, SURVIVORS AND OTHERS WHO ARE IMPACTED WHEN ABUSE OCCURS.
WHY DOES THE ADVENTIST CHURCH IN SYDNEY NEED A POLICY ON SEXUAL ABUSE?
-Sexual abuse can occur in any church
-The Church is called to be a community that expresses God’s love, justice and compassion
-The misuse and exploitation of the power of one person over another is not consistent with Christian and the Church’s values
-The Adventist Church in Sydney has put in place policies to protect individuals from sexual exploitation and assault. Policies to investigate allegations enable complaints to be validated and also afford Church workers protection in the event of false complaints.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH’S ADMINISTRATION (LEADERSHIP) IN SYDNEY?
The administration of the Adventist Church in the Greater Sydney Conference is to:
-Create awareness within all Church communities of the issues related to sexual abuse and misconduct
-Create responsible procedures to deal with any situations which may arise
-Protect all people’s rights throughout any investigation process
-Support the congregation or group throughout any process of investigation to the point where the issues are resolved and the people can move forward within God’s healing love
-Prevent abuse and misconduct at all Church levels and church-related events through education, awareness, and following safety policies and procedures
The Children’s Ministries Department of Greater Sydney Conference provides training on Boundaries with Children on an annual basis. We encourage all local Church leaders and anyone involved in working with children to set healthy boundaries to protect themselves and the children they’re working with.
